Tricolour Knitting Stitch Pattern: Easy 3-Colour Wrapped Stitch
A much-requested three-colour pattern. Pairs of purl stitches wrapped with the yarn make a little woven texture, and the colour changes every 4 rows.
After a long time I've brought you a three-colour pattern. So many of you asked for an easy one. Pairs of stitches are wrapped with the yarn, which gives a little woven texture, and every 4 rows you switch to the next colour.
Stitch count
Any even number (multiples of 2). Start right after your border.
What you'll need
- Yarn in three colours
- Knitting needles to suit your yarn
The wrap
With the yarn in front, purl 2. Slip those 2 stitches back to the left needle, take the yarn to the back, slip them back to the right needle, and bring the yarn to the front again. The yarn is now wrapped around the pair.
The 4-row pattern
- Row 1 (RS, new colour):right sidenew colour
Knit the first stitch. Don't slip it, because you've just changed colour. *Purl 2 and wrap them.* Repeat until 3 stitches remain. Purl 2 and wrap them, but leave the yarn at the back this time, then knit the last stitch.
- Row 2 (WS):wrong side
Knit or slip the first stitch, then purl every stitch.
- Row 3 (RS):right side
Slip 1, then purl every stitch in the same colour. This makes a ridge on the right side.
- Row 4 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1 and purl every stitch.
Change to the next colour and repeat the 4 rows, working through your three colours in turn.
Where to use it
Children's sweaters and cardigans. It's also great for bags and purses. Knitted in nylon thread they come out durable and easy to clean.
