Easiest Daisy Knitting Stitch Pattern: A Delicate 8-Row Eyelet Design
Little flower-like clusters with tiny eyelets between them. It looks tricky at first glance, but it's one 3-stitch move repeated, shifted a stitch each time.
This is a delicate design that looks like rows of little flowers with small eyelets between them. It might look difficult at first glance, but it's very easy: one 3-stitch move, repeated across the row, and shifted by one stitch every time you work it.
The back has a soft texture of its own, which I show in the video.
Stitch count
Multiples of 3, plus 2. My swatch is 38 stitches; I teach it on 14.
What you'll need
- Any fine or medium yarn. Soft wool, merino or cotton all suit a delicate stitch like this
- Knitting needles to suit your yarn
The daisy move (3 stitches into 3)
Knit the next 2 stitches together through the back loop, but don't drop them. Wrap the yarn over the needle. Then knit those same 2 stitches together with the third stitch, through the back loop, and now drop all three. You've made 3 stitches out of 3.
The 8-row pattern
- Row 1 (RS):right side
Slip 1, knit to the end. This plain row counts as part of the pattern.
- Row 2 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1, purl to the end.
- Row 3 (RS):right side
Slip 1. *Daisy move.* Repeat across, and knit the last stitch.
- Row 4 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1, purl every stitch, including the yarn overs.
- Row 5 (RS):right side
Slip 1, knit 2. *Daisy move.* Repeat across, and knit the last 2 stitches.
- Row 6 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1, purl every stitch.
- Row 7 (RS):right side
Slip 1, knit 1. *Daisy move.* Repeat across. With 3 stitches left, there's no room for another move because you need an edge stitch, so knit the last 3.
- Row 8 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1, purl every stitch.
Repeat these 8 rows, starting again with the plain knit row. The same daisy move starts in three different places (rows 3, 5 and 7), and that shift is what spreads the flowers across the fabric.
Want a quicker version? Skip the plain knit and purl rows (rows 1 and 2) and repeat only 6 rows. The texture comes out denser.
Where to use it
Use it on any children's project, or make a stole or shawl with it. Here's one idea I love: knit a band of it at the bottom of a pair of palazzo pants and knit plain above it.
