Trending Pearl (Moti) Knitting Pattern for Cardigans, Jackets & Frocks
Little pearl-like (moti) clusters with eyelets around them, between neat purl columns. Every wrong-side row is the same, and it suits summer and winter knits.
Now that it's getting cold again, here's a lovely pattern that works for both summer and winter. Little pearl-like (moti) clusters form between yarn overs, and neat purl columns run up between them. It's very easy, and every wrong-side row is exactly the same.
Stitch count
Multiples of 9, plus 4. I knitted it on 58 stitches.
What you'll need
- Any wool, or cotton for a summer version
- Knitting needles to suit your yarn
The 10-row pattern
- Row 1 (RS):right side
Slip 1, purl 2. *Knit 7, purl 2.* Repeat. Knit the last stitch.
- Row 2 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1. *Knit 2, purl 7.* Repeat. Knit 2, purl the last stitch.
- Rows 3–4:
Repeat rows 1 and 2.
- Row 5 (RS):right side
Slip 1, purl 2. *Yarn over, purl 2, purl 3 together, purl 2, yarn over, purl 2.* Repeat. Knit the last stitch. Every stitch on this row is purled.
- Row 6 (WS):wrong side
Slip 1, knit 2. *Purl 7, knit 2.* Repeat. Purl the last stitch.
- Row 7 (RS):right side
Slip 1, purl 2. *Purl 1 (the old yarn over), yarn over, purl 1, purl 3 together, purl 1, yarn over, purl 1, purl 2.* Repeat. Knit the last stitch.
- Row 8 (WS):wrong side
As row 6.
- Row 9 (RS):right side
Slip 1, purl 2. *Knit 2, yarn over, purl 3 together, yarn over, knit 2, purl 2.* Repeat. Knit the last stitch.
- Row 10 (WS):wrong side
As row 6.
Repeat these 10 rows. Each yarn over is paired with the purl-3-together decrease, so the count stays the same: every group is always 7 stitches plus the 2 purl gap stitches.
Where to use it
Cardigans, jackets and frocks, and really any project. In cotton it makes a pretty summer top. In wool it's a cosy winter cardigan.
