Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to make my order?

Every piece is made from scratch after you order it — nothing comes off a shelf. Production time depends on the delivery speed you pick at checkout: Rush (7–10 days), Express (15–21 days), or Standard (28–35 days). Shipping transit time is separate and starts after the piece is finished. You'll receive a tracking number on WhatsApp when it ships.

What is your refund and exchange policy?

Because every item is made to order specifically for you, refunds aren't possible. If your piece arrives damaged or has a genuine quality issue, contact us within 48 hours with clear photos and a description. Chinki will work with you on an exchange or resolution.

Can I request a custom order?

Yes — custom orders are what Chinki does best. Choose your colours, size, and design details. Submit through the Custom Order form on this site or message directly on WhatsApp. Making time depends on the delivery speed you choose (Rush, Express, or Standard), plus a little extra for complex designs.

What yarn do you use? Is it safe for newborns?

100% organic cotton yarn — hypoallergenic, machine washable, and free of synthetic materials or chemical dyes. It's safe for newborn skin from day one and gets softer with every wash.

How do I ask about a specific product?

WhatsApp is fastest — there's a button on every product page. You can also email sood.chinki@gmail.com or use the Contact page. Chinki replies within 24 hours.

Do you ship to India?

Yes. We ship worldwide, including all Indian cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, and everywhere else. Since everything is made in Himachal Pradesh, domestic shipping is particularly fast. International orders typically arrive 7–14 business days after the piece is completed.

What baby sizes do you make?

Newborn (0–3 months, 5–12 lbs, 18–24 in) through 12–18 Months (22–27 lbs, 29–31 in). Custom sizes are available — just include your baby's current weight and height when ordering. Kids' costumes are available for older children too. Check the Size Guide for full measurements.

Is organic cotton actually better for newborn skin?

Significantly. Organic cotton is grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, and processed without formaldehyde or chemical finishes. For newborns — whose skin is up to 30% thinner than adult skin and absorbs substances more readily — that difference matters. Every Knitting Knife piece uses 100% organic cotton. No synthetics, no exceptions.

How do I wash handmade knitted baby clothes?

Machine wash on a gentle cold cycle (30°C max). Air dry flat — never hang wet knits, and avoid tumble drying. These pieces are durable with proper care. Many customers tell us theirs have lasted through multiple children.

Do you make custom costumes for kids?

Yes. Bear, bunny, and other character-style knitted costumes in any size. Describe what you're looking for through the Custom Orders page or WhatsApp, and Chinki will discuss details and pricing. These are popular as baby shower gifts and newborn photoshoot outfits.

What's the difference between crochet and knitting?

Knitting uses two needles and creates a stretchy, draping fabric — ideal for sweaters, cardigans, and warm garments. Crochet uses a single hook and produces denser, more structured fabric — better for bags, accessories, and intricate patterns. Chinki has mastered both over 12 years. Each product uses whichever technique gives the best result for that specific piece.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept secure online payment via Cashfree (credit/debit cards, UPI, net banking). For Indian customers, UPI is the fastest option. All transactions are processed securely through the checkout on this website.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes. Mention 'gift wrap' in your order notes or WhatsApp message. We'll wrap the piece and include a handwritten note if you'd like — just tell us what to write.

Where are you based? Is this genuinely handmade?

Himachal Pradesh, India. Every product is made by Chinki — no factories, no outsourcing, no machines at any stage. Each piece is hand-knitted or hand-crocheted in a home studio in the Himalayas. 560,000+ YouTube subscribers have watched the process firsthand.
