Beautiful Knitting Pattern with Texture & Lace Effect (Easy 8-Row Repeat Guide)
· 5 min read · Tutorial · By Chinki
It looks complex. It's not. This 8-row repeat creates a raised, lace-like texture using yarn overs and simple decreases — elegant enough for shawls, practical enough for baby knits.
This textured lace pattern is one of those designs that impresses everyone who sees it — but only you'll know how straightforward it really is. The combination of yarn overs and back-loop decreases creates a raised, lace-like fabric with small decorative gaps.
It works beautifully for baby garments, shawls, stoles, and even as a border design for larger pieces.
Stitch Count
Cast on stitches in multiples of 3, plus 2 extra stitches. For example: 38 stitches (36 + 2). For learning, try with 14 stitches.
The 8-Row Pattern
Rows 1–2: Plain Foundation
Row 1 (RS): Slip 1, knit all stitches across.
Row 2 (WS): Slip 1, purl all stitches across.
Rows 3–4: First Pattern Row
Row 3: Slip 1. Then repeat across: knit 2 together through the back loop (don't drop yet), yarn over, then knit 3 together through the back loop (drop). Last stitch is knitted normally.
Row 4: Slip 1, purl all stitches.
Rows 5–6: Offset Pattern
Row 5: Slip 1, knit first 2 stitches normally. Then repeat: knit 2 together (back loop), yarn over, knit 3 together. At the end, knit the last 2 stitches normally.
Row 6: Purl all stitches.
Rows 7–8: Second Offset
Row 7: Slip 1, knit 1. Then repeat: knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 3 together. Knit remaining stitches normally.
Row 8: Purl all stitches.
Repeat these 8 rows continuously. Each pattern row shifts the motif by one stitch, creating a diagonal texture that builds row by row.
